ABOUT THE ARTIST
Moon Seop Seo is a Korean Designer living in The Netherlands. His style of design can be described as technically detailed and minimalistic, as he adopts a material-based approach stemming from his engineering background.
In 2021 Moon Seop Seo graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, and was honoured with Cum Laude. Shortly after graduating, he started his own design studio and has since collaborated with various museums and galleries. Through his architectural installations, he aims to form a connection with his audience by creating an atmosphere and providing a memorable moment which he describes as ‘like exclamation marks to their daily lives’. His works are often stimulating, surprising and engaging, exploring several core themes including connection to Nature and reinterpretation of traditions. As a Korean citizen in the Netherlands Moon Seop Seo is inspired by the encounters between East and West, this hybridity is contextualised in his practiced based research.
When it comes to casting ceramics, there are many limitations regarding form and shape. The more complicated the form becomes; the more parts are required for the moulds. For the Bit-Scape Candle holders, Moon challenges the conventional way of casting ceramics. By building moulds with tiny pixeled plaster blocks the designer creates unconventional shapes resulting in unique sculptural art pieces or functional candle holders.
